The 5 Best Single Cup Coffeemakers

5 Best Single Cup Coffee MakersEveryone wants their own fresh cup of coffee now and that is part of the reason single cup coffeemakers have become so popular in past few years. While some coffee drinkers enjoy the pour over method others prefer K-Cups, or Coffee pods for their single cups of coffee. Both sides can agree though that the days of heated all day pots of coffee are behinds us.  Keurig has been leading the trend for single cup coffeemakers, but there are plenty of other companies like Tassimo, Senseo, and Cuisinart making quality single cup coffee makers for people who need their coffee on the go.

Best Single Cup K-Cup Coffeemakers

Coffee drinkers love the Keurig K-cup coffee system due to the variety of coffee, tea, and hot chocolate available to brew, along with the comfort of brewing a single cup of coffee at home. One of the most popular models of the Keurig coffee machines is the Keurig Platinum B70. The Keurig Platinum B70 is one of top single cup coffee makers available because it offers 5 different cup sizes, a 60oz water reservoir, and an award winning design. The Platinum B70 is a stylish single cup coffeemaker that brews a perfect cup of coffee each time. With a blue lit LCD screen this Keurig single cup coffeemaker is simple to use for all ages, and is fully programmable.  If there is ever an issue with your coffeemaker Keurig offers an exceptional warranty program that will replace your machine.

An evolution from the Keurig is Cuisinart SS-700, which supports the K-cup brewing system and is quiet similar to Keurig machines.  This single cup coffeemaker has many different brewing options, and like the Keurig has 5 different cup sizes to choose from. Adding even more convenience the water tank is able to hold 80oz of water, which means far less refilling, and works great for an office setting. Unlike any other single cup coffeemakers the Cuisinart features a hot water button that will dispense a cup of hot water, which is great for making hot chocolate, soup, or tea. Quiet brew technology allows for coffee drinks to enjoy their favorite K-cup in a peaceful environment, while not disturbing others. Equipped with a rinse control button cleaning this system is simple. Rise control instantly cleans the inside of the brew chamber making every cup taste just as delicious as the first.

Best Single Cup Coffee Pod Coffeemakers

K-cups may be the most popular type of brewing system, but it is not the only, coffee pods are a great alternative that many top of the line single cup coffeemakers use to produce a quick, fresh, quality cup of coffee for you each morning.

Best Single Cup Coffee Making EquipmentThe Tassimo T65 is a stunning device that uses top technology to deliver a premium cup of coffee for each and every brew.  Using the T-disc brewing system the Tassimo T65 comes equipped with a new exclusive barcode system that scans each T-disc and then identifies the correct brewing instructions with the exact pressure, temperature, water, and time duration so each cup is uniquely perfect.  The noise reduction system, light under the cup stand, and dishwasher safe parts add convenience and make drinking coffee even more enjoyable.

One of the most affordable single cup coffeemakers is the Senseo Coffee Pod Machine that brews a great cup of coffee quicker than most comparable machines. In under a minute the Senseo heats up and produces a cup of coffee with a rich and great taste making it one of the favorite coffeemakers for someone in a hurry in the morning. Not only is it a fast machine, but it is durable and travels quiet well, with its small size the Senseo is a great option to bring along on a vacation. Since all of its parts are dishwasher safe cleaning the system is a breeze and hassle free. With many different varieties of coffee pods to choose from and even more Senseo brand coffee pods available everyone will be able to have their own favorite flavors.

Top Pour Over Method Single Cup Coffeemaker

4 Tricks For The Best Coffee You Can Brew

How to Make The Best CoffeeCoffee has been elevated to an art in some cultures. Coffee drinkers across the globe pride themselves on their coffee preparations, and if you ask, most will tell you their method makes the best coffee. The best coffee, it seems, may not be a matter of preparation method or ritualistic artifice but instead all about the amount of care that goes into the cup.

Whether you use a percolator that’s been in your family for generations, a Moka pot, pour over funnels, a French press, drip coffee pots, or a single cup coffee maker, the best coffee comes from ingredients that are fresh and proper care of your coffee preparation device of choice.

We’ve gathered four simple tricks to help you enjoy the best coffee possible whenever you brew your favorite bean.

4 Ways to Ensure the Best Coffee

Follow these simple methods and you are practically guaranteed to enjoy a better cup of coffee. These methods of coffee preparation allow for your favorite method of coffee brewing, but by following these guidelines, you ensure that you are getting the best out of your beans.

1. Fresh Coffee is Best Coffee

Avoid old beans. Fresh, whole bean coffee holds its flavor and avoids as much oxidation as ground coffee can experience. For the best coffee possible, buy fresh beans and grind them as close to the moment of brewing as possible.

2. Coffee Grind Coarseness Matters

Investing in a good coffee grinder can truly upgrade your coffee experience. How finely or coarsely you grind your coffee beans directly impacts your coffee extraction no matter what method you use to do so. Too finely ground coffee may be too strong while too coarsely ground coffee may taste weak. Find the grind that fits your preferences for full flavor at the strength you like.

3. Good Water Makes the Best Coffee

There are only two ingredients in a cup of black coffee, so the water you use to brew your coffee will have a direct impact on your coffee’s flavor, body, and extraction potential.  Use filtered water or bottled water to ensure a clean, full flavor. Further, experiment with the proportion of ground coffee to ensure you are using the right ratio for your taste preferences.

4. Clean Your Coffee Equipment

Whether you’re running the BMW of espresso machines every day or pouring a kettle of boiled water over a funnel full of grounds, popping K-Cups in a Keurig or putting prepackaged coffee pods into the company urn, you will get the best coffee from clean equipment. It is essential to clean your coffee equipment and to descale coffee makers regularly exposed to tap water.

Single Cup Starbucks Coffees Stick with Keurig

Keurig K-Cup coffee system owners across the country can breathe a sigh of relief. Green Mountain Coffee, makers of Keurig single cup coffee systems, have struck a deal with Starbucks to continue manufacturing Starbucks K-Cups and Tazo Tea K-Cups.

Starbucks released their own single cup coffee maker called the Verismo, prompting many Keurig system owners to worry about the loss of access to Starbucks coffees and Tazo Teas in K-Cups. The two companies struck a deal extending the business partnership, though neither will disclose exactly how long the deal will continue.

Perhaps the mocking the Verismo system received on Saturday Night Live had something to do with it:

Starbucks K-Cups for Keurig Single Cup Coffee Makers

Starbucks Coffee K-Cups continue to be popular with Keurig K-Cup coffee maker system owners, and CoffeeForLess will continue to provide them for our community of coffee drinkers as long as Starbucks continues to put them on the market.

Starbucks K-Cups are consistently popular, selling well and receiving regularly excellent reviews from Keurig owners. The excellent coffee varieties and reliable roasts translate well to K-Cups, making for a consistent single cup of coffee that is of the quality that one expects from Starbucks coffee.

With the extension of the deal between Green Mountain Coffee and Starbucks Coffee, many are wondering if there might be more Starbucks K-Cups on the way. Many dream of the day when luscious caramel-flavored Starbucks coffee is available for their Keurig single cup coffee maker.

While the coffees available in K-Cups from Starbucks is limited, the diligent coffee fanatics at CoffeeForLess keep our eyes out for new releases. If Starbucks does ever release more Starbucks K-Cups, you, the CoffeeForLess community, will be some of the first to know, particularly if they ever release Starbucks Caramel Flavored Coffee in K-Cups.

In the meantime, we’ll just enjoy Wolfgang Puck’s Caramel Cream K-Cups.

Senseo and Other Coffee Pods Compatible With Hamilton Beach Coffee Makers

Senseo Coffee Pods Not The Only Refills For Hamilton Beach CoffeemakersI was asked recently why anyone would buy the Hamilton Beach Coffee Makers that the person asking thought only used Senseo coffee pods. The answer was not what the person expected. Senseo coffee pods are excellent, but the Hamilton Beach coffee pod systems do not brew Senseo coffee pods exclusively. As a matter of fact, these pod coffee makers brew a great variety of single cup coffee pods.

This is not to say, of course, that Senseo coffee pods are not reason enough to invest in a Hamilton Beach pod coffee maker if you are in the market for coffee pod brewers. Senseo Mystic Valley Colombia Blend Coffee Pods and Senseo 10% Kona Blend Coffee Pods are two great examples of what makes Senseo coffee pods great. Though both varieties contain medium roast, blended coffee, the difference in flavor is truly distinctive, accenting the artful showcasing of each region’s beans that the respective blends accomplish.

This black tea variety and many other black teas make a great morning brew because of their slightly higher caffeine content than white or green tea varieties.

Uniq Teas supplements this tradition of waking up with the help of tea with their Herbal Energy Blend Tea, full of herbal sources of energy, including those that naturally contain caffeine. This herbal blend can be just the right pick-me-up, but it also has a delicious flavor that results from the artfully balanced herbs infused in every single cup.

They also make a variety of great interpretations of the enervating South American tea Yerba Mate. This tea is not technically a tea, being made from a plant other than the Camellia Sinensis plant. Yerba Mate is actually made from a plant in the holly family of plants and is consumed to invigorate and cause conversations traditionally.

Green Coffee Beans Found to Help Diabetes and Weight Loss

Green Coffee Beans Cause Weight LossThe words of the day are “chlorogenic acid,” a natural substance found in green coffee beans. Scientists have been studying this substance in an attempt to understand its effect on the human body. Multiple studies have been done on chlorogenic acid, but two were published in the last few weeks that have potentially huge ramifications for those who enjoy coffee and those who suffer from either obesity or type 2 diabetes.

The chlorogenic acid in green coffee beans is a naturally occurring chemical that can be found in many fruits and vegetables, including apples, cherries, and plums. It appears to have little to no side effects when applied to the body in concentrated doses, and this fact has led to multiple studies being done as to its medical uses. What science is discovering is that the chlorogenic acid found so concentrated in green coffee beans seems to have significant positive health effects on metabolic processes.

Unfortunately, chlorogenic acid is mostly destroyed by the high heat used to roast coffee beans. Some of it does make it to your mug, though, giving it some positive health impact. To experience the full health benefits discussed below, one must take a concentrated extract of green coffee beans. Nobody recommends brewing green beans, though that would be a healthful tonic, because unroasted coffee beans have a very bitter, strongly sour, even grassy taste to them.

Health Benefits of Green Coffee Bean Extracts

Type 2 diabetes is a growing epidemic in the United States, one that affects more than 90 percent of the 26 million Americans with diabetes. A study on the body’s physiological response to green coffee bean extracts was the result of Dr. Joe Vinson observing that those who drank seven or more cups of coffee a day experienced a 50 percent risk reduction for type 2 diabetes compared to those who drank just two cups of coffee a day. This led Dr. Vinson on a quest to uncover what about coffee decreased the risk of type 2 diabetes. What he found was multiple studies that had shown that unroasted coffee bean extract had a regulating effect on blood sugar regulation. He studied this effect in further detail with excellent outcomes, resulting in as much as a 30 percent reduction in blood-glucose at just a daily 400mg extract dosage. Further, those who received the extract experienced weight loss.

With that in mind, Vinson did another study, studying the effects of green coffee beans on weight loss specifically, and what he found is good news to everyone looking to get ready for that summer beach body. Participants lost an average of 17 pounds of body mass in just 22 weeks. This amounted to a 10.5 percent decrease in overall body weight and a 16 percent decrease in body fat. These results were accomplished with no significant lifestyle changes other than the addition of green coffee bean extracts ranging from 700 to 1,050mgs dosage daily. Vinson simply connected the dots between his previous study and other studies that had shown that green coffee beans cause weight loss.

The good news for everyone is that there may be even more health benefits to green coffee beans yet uncovered, and while drinking roasted coffee daily may reduce the amount of those benefits received, a lesser percentage of those healthful compounds finds its way into every single cup that you brew.

Reuse K-Cups to Start Your Garden Seeds

Reuse K-Cups as Seed StartersK-Cups often receive the criticism that they are wasteful in terms of trash production, a claim that Keurig has refuted in terms of proportion of waste produced per capita. Certainly, Keurig has heard the criticism. Their new Vue single cup coffee maker uses #5 recyclable plastic, a plastic being recycled in more and more communities across North America every day, in its inserts.

However, many single cup coffee consumers still feel the need to find ways to reuse or repurpose spent K-Cups in order to reduce their impact. Recently, I stumbled across a great and timely use for spent K-Cups. This Instructables post teaches you how to turn used K-Cups into seed starters for your garden. Further, it even reminds us all that the contents of the K-Cup, the filter and grounds, are fully compostable.

Get Green With Single Cup Coffee

Single cup coffee consumers can reduce the carbon footprint of their favored single serving coffee or tea product.  By engaging in a few environmentally conscious practices, your favorite way of brewing coffee or tea can fit into a reasonably green lifestyle.

While neither K-Cups nor T-Discs are easy to recycle, Vue disks are in many ways. Further, the contents of all three types of plastic cartridge refill for single cup coffee makers is a combination of coffee filter and coffee grounds, both of which are compostable. By composting your K-Cup or T-Disc contents, you low the volume of mass contributed to landfills.

Coffee pods themselves are typically an enclosed filter containing coffee grounds. This makes the entire coffee pod likely to be compostable, returning the valuable nutrients gathered from the soil by the coffee plant to the soil in your gardens. Most coffee pods are packed in foil or plastic packaging that is unlikely to be compostable. However, the spent pod itself actually accounts for the majority of the mass disposed.

Upcycling K-Cups, T-Discs or Coffee Pods

Upcycling is the process of turning trash into treasure, not through alchemy but through reuse. By taking the plastics in our lives and putting them to further use, we extend their positive impact while their disposal mass remains the same.  By upcycling those plastics that would typically enter the waste cycle immediately, those plastics displace the need for other plastics.

Whatever type of single cup coffee or tea that you personally enjoy, finding ways to reuse spent single serving refills, whether through composting the contents or adapting spent cartridges for other purposes, is a great way to reduce the carbon footprint of your daily coffee consumption. A little upcycling effort seems like a fair trade for the lack of A.M. morning fog effort that single cup coffees and teas save us.

Let us know creative ways that you have upcycled spent K-Cups, T-Discs, or coffee pods personally; we would love to hear your creative ideas.
