Jenny A asked: How would you compare this against Starbucks Sumatra Blend or 8 o Clock Coffee Dark Roast? My husband loves the STarbucks dark roasts and we are looking for a less expensive but equally satisfying replacement. He prefers super heavy coffee taste. Nov 11, 2013

yvonne v: My husband is retired Navy Chief, who loves a bold roast coffee. The Kenyan AA and the Columbian Dark Roast in Green Mountain Coffee satisfies him, without having the "burned roast" taste we get from Starbucks. Green Mountain also has a Sumatra Blend, I believe. We have been very happy with Green Mountain. He can get his Dark Roasts, and I get my Breakfast Blend or Our Blend! Mar 20, 2014

Robert G: I also love the Starbucks Sumatra, although they rarely offer it in store. Green Mountain makes a Sumatra Blend I think, which is pretty good. I don't like the Kenyan as much; it has some funny little taste in it that I don't find as smooth. Like your husband, I like the dark roasts. My two favorites I get from CFL are the REVV and the Emeril's Big Easy Bold; try those! Mar 20, 2014

Barbara G: I've never even seen 8 o'clock Dark Roast, but, Kenyan and Sumatran are similar. The Sumatra is a true dark roast, whereas the Kenyan is only medium roast, but it has a bold coffee flavor. Green Mountain has Sumatran Reserve, which I also buy. I use them interchangeably. Mar 20, 2014

robin f: My daughter & I both like dark roasts as well. Kenyan AA is a medium roast & was too weak for us. 8 o'clock dark roast is good but our fav is green mountain's Dark Magic- dark roast that has great flavor.
We try different kinds, but always come back to Dark Magic.

Dennis M: I have tasted all three coffees mentioned and to be honest I can't tell any difference between them. the only reason I bought the Kenyan AA is that I thought it might be like a coffee from the country of Kenya, Africa as I plan on traveling there come the end of April. Mar 20, 2014

Claudia A: We love the rich bold favors of Starbucks coffee and this definitely doesn't rise to the same taste level. I have no idea why it is listed as extra bold yet only a medium roast. Would not purchase again. Try the Double Diamond instead for a stronger, rich flavor. Mar 20, 2014

Yitzchok F: There is no comparison to 8 o Clock coffee. Different league.
This is much superior but if your looking for a replacement to Sumatra, I would recommend Green Mountain Sumatra or French Roast. They are bolder then the Kenyan AA. Really great coffees.

D O: This is a medium blend coffee, and I like this cause the stronger bolder flavors just kill my stomach. Kenyan AA coffee is a nice meduim roast that is smooth in flavor. I can't even stand the smell of Sumatra coffee. Hope this helps. Mar 20, 2014

shaun g: Hi Jenny,
I'd rate it in between the Starbucks and the 8 o clock in terms of strength and body. I usually brew a 10 oz cup so that keeps it a bit milder too. I do like the flavor of the Sumatra blend. One of my favs.

Lewis L: I would say this compares favorably to Sumartra. However; you might want to consider the Green Mountain Dark Magic or the Barista Italian Blend. Both of these have a very strong coffee taste! Mar 20, 2014

Louise B: The Green Mountain Kenyan AA Extra Bold Satisfies that desire for a rich, bold flavor. Also has a wonderful aroma when brewing. I think it is comparable to the Starbucks flavor you like. Mar 20, 2014

barbara k: I refuse to have anything to do with Starbuck's so I'm not able to compare this coffee with any of theirs. However, I really, really like this coffee!!! Mar 20, 2014

Margaret Z: We have tried the Kenyan AA, but in the end prefer the Green Mountain Sumatran Reserve and the Newman's Own, both of which are Extra Bold, but not harsh Mar 20, 2014

Jaime W: I suggest Double Black Diamond or Black Magic by Green Mountain, if you enjoy extra bold coffees like Starbucks. I did not care much for Kenyan AA Mar 20, 2014
