As others mentioned, the grind is important. A finer grind better accommodates the "flow through" brewing nature of the Keurig machine but only if you don't pack the coffee in too tightly. Doing so only forces the water to find ways around what amounts to a coffee clog and yields poor results. Filling it loosely about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way with finely ground coffee seems to work well and prevents the breaking problem which was mentioned by another reviewer (something I too had problems with when I was packing mine too tightly).

This is a great product. If you like a fresh cup every time, this is for you. Plus, you save money. I used to throw away old coffee everyday because it was old and got a burnt taste. Not anymore. The idea that the coffee is weak is false. You can adjust how much coffee fits in the filter cup by tapping down and adding more. And my machine has never clogged.

If you are expecting this to be as easy as a regular K-Cup, then you will, of course, be disapointed. However, by taking an extra 2 minutes, you can have coffee that's just as strong (or weak...depending on your preference)as your favorite K-Cup brews. I've found that an almost espresso grind, filled 2/3 full, will give you an almost exact duplicate of the K-Cup taste. I did this by comparing [...] that I ground myself,[...]. It's definitely worth it, if only to have a back-up plan if you happen to run out of K-Cups!

I disagree with the commenter who says you only get weak coffee with the "My K-Cup." I have been making my own blend of coffee beans and grinding them myself for several years. I absolutely HATE weak coffee - I demand a rich, complex and well-balanced flavor. The first 9.25 oz. cup I made with "My K-Cup" and my own ground coffee blend[loosely filled filter to the top] was WAY too strong - and believe me, I like strong, rich coffee. I now fill the filter only 2/3 full and it makes a great cup - just as rich as the French Press I was using.I compared the spent grinds of my coffee with those of a Caribou K-Cup and mine were a little bit finer. Hope that helps!I absolutely LOVE my Keurig and the "My K-Cup!" [I have the Keurig model B66 from [...]]

the plastic around the top keeps breaking from using the top.

This is the only way to brew your own brand coffee that is not available in K-Cups. I have some unique coffees and this generic cup does work. You will need to dump and clean the filter after every use. You need to fill it full. I highly recommend having one of these just in case you happen to run out of your K-Cups or for that special coffee you bought and you only want one cup. A "gotta have one" in my opinion. I have 2.

I purchased the My K Cup, thinking I could use "my" coffee. What a mistake. The coffee must be ground to a specific grind or it will not work properly. We have talked with Keurig, and they agree that the coffee must be a certain grind or it "clogs" the My K Cup. It is also messier. Sorry I purchased it. It is much easier to use the pre-measured/orginal K Cups.

I was very pleased to see that I could use any brand of coffee by using this filter. However, I was very disappointed when I found it made all coffee, even stronger blends, very weak even on the smallest cup setting. No matter what I tried, including packing down the coffee to get more inside the filter, I got a weak cup of coffee. So, if you don't like strong coffee, it works great, if you prefer stronger, bolder blends, it makes very watered down, weak coffee.
