Royce Markley Fall 2016

Royce Markley, University of Oregon

Congratulations to Royce Markley, winner of the Fall 2016 'Hit the Books' Scholarship!

Congratulations, Royce!

Royce wrote us a letter regarding his award:

I am honored to be the winner of the CoffeeForLess “Hit The Books Scholarship." I would like to send my thanks to CoffeeForLess. I appreciate that your company takes interest in supporting the education goals of young college students. Throughout my college experience, acquiring funding has always been a constant struggle. CoffeeForLess has allowed me to stress about money a little less this term.

I am a junior undergrad student majoring in Psychology and minoring in Creative Writing at the University of Oregon- Go Ducks! After I finish my undergrad program, I plan to apply to the Counseling Psychology master's program at the University of Oregon. Eventually, I plan to become a licensed therapist for underprivileged youth. Education has become one of the most important pursuits in my life. Every day I wake up and make strides to become a more educated, well-rounded person.

Outside of school, I spend my time pursuing my other passions. I spend a lot of time at the gym working on my fitness and health goals. I am an avid reader, and my mornings are often spent sipping coffee with my nose in a book. Perhaps my most important side passion, however, is foster care advocacy. I spend a lot of time writing material for my blog- fosterfight.com. My posts discuss my experiences in foster care, in hopes that people can be educated on how foster care operates. I am very passionate about improving the foster care system I grew up in.

Furthering my education is not just a way for me to graduate and get a job. Obtaining a degree means I can go out and help young people who come from situations like my own. Education gives me the tools I need to make the world a better place. Thank you CoffeeForLess for supporting my goals.

Sincerely,

Royce Markley
